Essential Elements of a Topoppgen Type Beat

A Topoppgen type beat typically includes the following components:

  1. Melodic Pads and Synths: Use minor scales or modal tones to create a somber or reflective atmosphere.
  2. 808 Basslines: Deep, sliding 808s that provide the low-end foundation and rhythmic drive.
  3. Trap Drums: Crisp snares, fast hi-hat rolls, and hard kicks to maintain energy and groove.
  4. Ambient Effects: Reverb and delay effects add depth and space to the mix.

These elements work together to balance a sad or introspective mood with an aggressive edge, making the beat suitable for both freestyles and full songs.

  3. Add a Lead Melody: Use soft synth leads or piano sounds with subtle movement.
  4. Program Drums: Begin with a basic trap drum pattern, then add hi-hat rolls and snare variations.
  5. Design the 808 Bass: Create sliding bass notes that complement the chord progression and kick drums.
